Welcome to my website! I am really grateful to be able to share my passion with you. It is so important that you connect with your photographer and I want you to find the right fit as much as you do. So before you consider commissioning me, I would love to tell you a little bit about who I am.
I'm blunt, opinionated (pretty stubborn as well) and probably far too long-winded most of the time (including this post, I'm sure). I like Game of Thrones, chips & salsa and I have an overabundance of empathy (it's actually a curse). I am drawn to dark, rich colors. I love patterns & texture and I especially love throwing people into the mix. My humor is 97% dad jokes. I get my feelings out by writing and I am on Facebook way, way too often. Green is my favorite color.
I grew up with a camera in my hand. Every Christmas and birthday, my parents gifted me some sort of camera. Polaroids, video cameras, disposable cameras, waterproof cameras, film cameras. I was fascinated by photography and "capturing moments" (as cliche as that sounds these days haha). In high school, I used to carry around disposable cameras and document parties, days at school or football games. I remember how fun it was to develop them the next day and have my friends ask for copies. My unspoken goal each year was to have some printed in the yearbook so I could feel like I contributed to history. I remember finding out some of my images had been selected for the yearbook and feeling like I had won the lottery.
When I was in college studying for my BFA, I fell in love with the science behind photography. I had always appreciated the visual art, but never understood the art of the process. I learned how to shoot film, develop and print it myself. Through photography classes, I discovered my passion for a photojournalistic style and found inspiration through artists like Mary Ellen Mark and Sally Mann.
I remember always hoping that I would one day be able to incorporate photography into my career, but I never knew how I would accomplish that until I started second shooting weddings for my friend Aaron. During my first wedding with him, I cried through the speeches. Later when I got home and started editing the photos I felt incredibly empathetic with the clients --- I felt their love and their joy. I was so moved by all of the emotions of the day, it was amazing. My photographs had never made me feel such strong emotion before, but now I feel it every time I flip through the photographs of a wedding I get to capture. Clients are so much more than customers to me.
I am so thankful that I have a career that not only fulfills me as an artist, but as a human being. The fact that people entrust me to document one of the most important days of their life is so special to me. I want nothing more than to tell your story in the best way that I can. I love being able to collaborate with my clients. If you have an idea for a location, lay it on me! Questions about what you should wear? Let's figure it out together! If you think we have the makings to create something great, let's do it! Send me an email and tell me a bit about yourself and what you are looking for.
