Washington DC Engagements at the American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery with Morgan & Sam
Back in December, I met up with Morgan & Sam at the American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery in DC (my new favorite museum in DC - I have been back twice already since their session :-X). Looking back through their photos makes me smile so big and I cannot wait for their wedding. Aren't they absolute cuties?!
We started the session on the third floor of the American Art Museum. The colors there were outstanding. There are outstanding works of art everywhere and it's impossible to not find inspiration.
After walking around the museum we headed outside and spent some time exploring! I can't wait for you to see all the great spots we found. Props to my husband for finding the gigantic Christmas tree. It made a pretty amazing backdrop.
How did you two meet?
"We first met in the community room of our apartment building. I had just moved in about a month prior and Sam had lived there for about a year. I couldn't afford cable at the time, so I would go to the community room to watch Bruins games after I worked out at the building's gym. Sam would often be in the community room playing pool with his friend and would always offer me a beer, which was also always an IPA. Since I had just worked out and I hated IPAs, I always declined his offer. This happened a few times, but eventually I began referring to him as "the cute guy in my building" to my friends. After a few mishaps, including adding the wrong number into his phone and being busy the first couple of times he asked me out, we eventually went on our first date in April 2014!"
When did you first realize you wanted to marry each other? Who said I love you first?
"For me, I knew pretty quickly that this was a man I could see myself with for the rest of my life. Our relationship evolved very naturally and over time I just couldn't imagine my life without him. I think I really knew for sure when I met his family and fell in love with them as well. They welcomed me with open arms and I could really see myself becoming a part of the family. Similarly, Sam says that what really sealed the deal for him was when he saw how well his family and I interacted. So I guess we were on the same page!"
How did he propose? Did you see it coming or was it a total surprise?
"We were supposed to go hiking one Sunday, but when Sam tried to wake me up, I was a little bit grumpy (I'm not exactly a morning person). Since I got up too late for us to make it to the hiking spot we wanted to go in time. Instead, since the Marine Corps Marathon was going on. Sam thought we should go on a run to the Capitol building to watch the runners. So we ran there and watched the runners for a bit. As we walked back up the hill towards home, he started saying a lot of nice stuff and I was completely clueless, so I was kind of laughing wondering where this was all coming from. I didn't realize he was proposing until he was down on one knee. We had talked about getting married, but I had no idea when he was going to propose. It was a great surprise!"
What is something unique to you two as a couple? (do you have any special quirks? meals that you are obsessed with/favorite restaurants? a movie/tv show you can't get enough of?)
"We love Tropical Smoothie Cafe. We started going there when we began dating and as I am writing this, I am drinking a TS (as we lovingly refer to it) smoothie right now! Our favorite location is in Alexandria and we go any chance we get! I'll always remember TS as the place we decided to go to the Alexandria pound and that day we ended up taking home our little pup, Willy! It will always have a special place in our heart!"
What was the most memorable part of your engagement session? Was it what you expected?
"The engagement session was better than we expected! Lindsey made us feel at ease and she was super patient with us as we navigated our mutual awkwardness in front of the camera! We had a lot of fun. The most memorable part was finding and taking pictures in the beautifully Christmas decorated alleyway in Chinatown!"
What is your vision for your wedding?
"We really just want to have lots of fun celebrating with all of our family and friends. We're hoping for a relaxed day where all of our guests can enjoy themselves and celebrate with us with yummy food, good drinks, fun music, and lots of dancing!"
Thanks for stopping by! Check back for more love stories soon xx
