Winter Botanical Garden Wedding in Texas // Blake & Kristin
Today, I’m sharing wedding photos from one of my favorite couples and my first travel wedding. Blake reached out to me when he was planning to propose to Kristen to set up an engagement photo session the day after the proposal. When we met, we clicked right away! I ended up spending almost an hour longer with them than I planned taking photos because we were enjoying ourselves so much. I wished them luck with their wedding and wasn’t sure if I would hear from them again.
When Blake reached out to me about the possibility of traveling to Texas to photograph their wedding, I was so excited. This was my first wedding that required long distance travel, and I jumped at the chance. If you know me, you know that I am always ready for all things travel and new adventures!
Y’all, Texas hospitality is real! From the moment I arrived in Texas last November, Blake & Kristen’s family welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I was so much more than just their photographer. While shooting their rehearsal dinner they made sure to feed me plenty of delicious food. All of the decor for the evening was beautiful! It was obvious they put the same amount of care and thought into the rehearsal dinner that they put into the wedding day.
I love the opportunity to be at the rehearsal dinner to capture all of the joy and building excitement for the day to come. It makes a big difference on the wedding day if I have spent time with the couple beforehand. The bride and groom have a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, and my time spent with them helps me to better capture their personalities on the wedding day. That is the main reason that I offer complimentary engagement sessions with every wedding package - to get to know my couples!
The wedding was held at Clark Gardens, a botanical garden in Weatherford, Texas. This place had everything you could want in a venue—water features, trees, flowers, and even peacocks! They were married outside underneath a double ring cross built by Blake’s father. He used reclaimed wood and engraved the cross with Blake & Kristen’s initials and wedding date. It was a nice sentimental touch for their ceremony.
The personal flair continued into the reception where Blake’s cake was decorated with the United States Marine Corps seal. The couple even used his marine saber to cut the cake. It was a unique touch that I haven’t seen before at a wedding. They hired a live band and the party seemed to go on all night! One of the most memorable photos from the reception shows Kristen being lifted into the air by college friends who were on the cheerleading squad with her. This fun photo was even featured on Photobug in a gallery of epic reception shots!
Blake & Kristen were truly special clients and we’ve built a friendship that has lasted beyond the wedding day. They moved to Hawaii shortly after their wedding day, and when another wedding brought me to their area, I reached out right away. We were able to set up a photo session on the beach in Kauai one day and go hiking at Waimea Canyon the next! Hanging out with them really made Hawaii an even more memorable experience. I can’t wait to share photos of our time together!
Since this first trip, travel weddings have become some of my favorites. I might live in Virginia, but I am always ready to pack a bag and fly wherever I’m needed! If you are looking for a photographer to travel to your wedding location, reach out and let’s talk about your big day.
