Intimate Wedding Reception at the National Union Building // Washington DC
As a wedding photographer, I get to see a wide range of marriage celebrations. Every couple does things a little bit differently though many of my clients have the traditional wedding followed by a reception. Jared & Olivia chose to have a small intimate ceremony in Positano, Italy followed by an intimate celebration in DC!
They reached out in March when they were looking for a photographer to take their engagement photos. We had a great time getting to know each other and exploring the DC area. I even got to meet their dog which means it was a perfect day! Jared is into photography himself, so I felt a little extra pressure to nail their engagement photos. That’s one of the reasons I was so happy when they loved their photos and asked me to photograph their wedding reception. Choosing a photographer for these important life events takes a lot of trust, and it is a huge compliment when my couples want to continue working with me.
When I work with clients as their wedding photographer, I typically arrive when the wedding party is getting ready and most of the set up at the venue is already complete. This reception was different. I arrived when Jared, Olivia, and their families were hanging lights and decorating for the party at the National Union Building in D.C. I loved capturing those moments when the room was buzzing with excitement and everyone was wondering if things would come together.
Of course, they didn’t need to worry at all! Everything looked amazing, especially the incredibly stylish bride and groom who were dressed to the nines. Their personalities shone through in all of the unique touches they planned for the night. Some of the highlights included an ice cream station, personalized signs for guests to pose with, and plenty of games for guests to play. They even had a game of dare that involved pulling a random dare and doing whatever the card said with things like “recreate the lift scene from Dirty Dancing” or “take a selfie with the photographer”!
It was obvious that Jared & Olivia put a lot of thought and love into this celebration with the most important people in their life. Their reception was a blast! I spent the night laughing and dancing right along with the guests, and honestly, you can really feel the joy when you look at these photos.
If you’re getting married, I encourage you to plan a celebration that fits you and your partner. The only thing that truly matters is that you are choosing your forever person and celebrating your love together! No matter the size of your ceremony or celebration, I would love to talk with you about documenting your special day.
