I just had the most incredible experience as a photographer! Recently, I captured a Friday Harbor proposal, and it was truly one for the books. But let’s start from the beginning.
We planned a private island proposal, and I set up the scene. I kayaked out to the island ahead of the couple to prepare a cozy blanket and some champagne. It was my first time kayaking on the ocean, so I felt a little nervous but also excited. Plus, I carried all my photography gear with me, which made it even more nerve-wracking. However, I embraced the challenge!
Thankfully, my friend joined me for the kayaking part. I didn’t want to be out there alone, especially since I’m not the most experienced with the ocean. She also took some awesome behind-the-scenes videos using her iPhone, which was a sweet surprise for the couple.
Once we reached the put-in location, we hopped into the kayak and quickly realized it was infested with a family of spiders. Yikes! Both of us have arachnophobia, but we took a deep breath, battled a few, and conquered our fears. Nothing would stop us from making this Friday Harbor proposal extra special!
The planning was top-notch. We set up a tent earlier that morning on the island, complete with a dress and makeup for the occasion, along with an incredible book of photographs that told their story. It was so touching. After reliving their favorite moments, they found a little envelope holding the ring in the back of the book. When the big question was asked, there were already tears and an enthusiastic YES!
Being a part of this Friday Harbor proposal was amazing. It was a unique experience, and I feel incredibly grateful to capture those intimate and candid moments. This is what makes my job as a photographer so worthwhile. I hope to have more opportunities like this because it was truly unforgettable.
