Jonathan and Ashley traveled up from Arizona for what started as an anniversary trip. They both love the mountains and the moody beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and they had visited this area earlier in their relationship during another meaningful season of dating. When Jonathan began thinking about proposing, he kept coming back to this place. It already held memories for them, and returning felt like a full-circle moment.

Deception Pass wasn’t just beautiful. It was familiar. It was a place tied to time spent together, to early milestones, and to the feeling of discovering something new side by side. Jonathan knew he wanted to ask Ashley to marry him somewhere that already meant something, rather than choosing a location that looked impressive but felt disconnected from their story.

His original idea was to propose down in one of the coves they had explored before. It was meaningful, but when we scouted it, the light was flat and the view was tucked in. The moment deserved more space to breathe. I suggested moving to a higher overlook where the water opened up and the bridge framed the scene, giving them the same location they loved, just from a more cinematic perspective.
Jonathan was immediately on board. He wasn’t attached to one exact rock or corner of the trail. What mattered was the feeling of adventure and being back in a place that already held history for them.

With the bridge towering above and the water moving quietly below, Jonathan dropped to one knee. Ashley stood completely caught off guard, hands flying to her mouth, laughing through tears, that stunned kind of joy that makes time slow for a moment. The moment felt intimate, emotional, and perfectly them.

After she said yes, we wandered the trails as the light softened. Taking their time to soak in the reality of being engaged settle in. What began as an anniversary trip had quietly turned into one of the most meaningful days of their lives.
At one point, Jonathan told me he chose to work with me because he liked my “vibes,” which honestly felt like the highest compliment. They were kind, relaxed, and fully present with each other, and it made documenting their story feel effortless.
They returned to a place that already meant something to them, and they left it engaged, adding a whole new layer of memory to a landscape they already loved.
It was a great experience having you shoot our engagement!
