It’s Rhododendrons Galore for this Engagement Session

This spring engagement session at Volunteer Park was truly one of my favorite shoots from this past year. I’ve always wanted to shoot an engagement session during peak rhododendron bloom! The park looks stunning, filled with vibrant red, pink, and purple as the rhododendrons bloom. If you love romantic, floral-filled backdrops, Volunteer Park in spring is perfect.

B & B were such a joy to work with. Their chemistry made it so easy to direct them, and their love for each other was evident in every shot. I couldn’t be more excited for their wedding next year! Baylee’s white backless dress added a vintage, romantic vibe to the session, perfectly complementing the beauty of the park’s blooms. The soft elegance of her look, paired with the florals, made every photo feel timeless and full of love.

As I waited for B & B to arrive, I had an unexpected visitor—an inquisitive squirrel! It was surprisingly bold, constantly trying to rummage through my camera bag like it held a buried treasure of nuts. I couldn’t believe how unafraid it was. This little squirrel kept me quite entertained until the couple showed up!

Are you joking me? How incredible is this giant rhododendron bush?! I could have spent the entire session there.

If you’re planning a spring engagement session at Volunteer Park, time it around the rhododendron bloom. Washington’s rhododendrons usually peak from late April to early May. However, the timing can vary slightly with the weather. For 2025, watch the bloom forecast and reach out early. This ensures you capture the beauty at just the right moment.
